Boulder, Co. is the home of the University of Colorado at Boulder, the largest university in Colorado. Boulder is also known for it's world-class rock climbing.

History: The Boulder Valley was first the home of Indians, primarily the Southern Arapaho tribe who maintained a village near Haystack Mountain. Utes, Cheyennes, Comanches, and Sioux were occasional visitors to the area.

Gold seekers established the first non-native settlement in Boulder County on October 17, 1858 at Red Rocks near the entrance to Boulder Canyon. Less than a year later, on February 10, 1859, the Boulder City Town Company was organized by A.A. Brookfield, the first president, and 56 shareholders. Four thousand forty-four lots were laid out at a purchase price of $1,000 each, a price that was later lowered in order to attract more residents.

Famous People: Boulder was a setting for Stephen King's book The Stand (1978). King lived in Boulder for a little less than a year, beginning in the fall of 1974. Stephen White has written a series of mystery books using Boulder as the primary backdrop, featuring lead character Alan Gregory. The sitcom Mork & Mindy (1978–1982) was set in Boulder, with 1619 Pine St. serving as the exterior shot of Mindy's home. The creators of the animated show South Park (Trey Parker & Matt Stone) attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, which makes occasional appearances in South Park.
