Avon, Co. is nestled in the Eagle River Valley, at the base of Beaver Creek Ski Resort and nine miles west of Vai. Avon sprang up in the midst of the ski area's development. Although this town numbered less than 1,500 people only 20 years ago, today Avon boasts over 6,000 full-time residents, and that number nearly doubles during peak tourist season.
Avon is often referred to as the commercial core of the Eagle River Valley. Avon is home to Vail and Beaver Creek ski area employees and other residents who enjoy the breathtaking scenery and ample outdoor recreation in and around the two ski areas. In town, Gore Creek provides opportunities for fishing, kayaking and rafting.
The town is thought top be named by an Englishman for england's Avon River.
