"ColoradoTown.com KEYWORD The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District"

The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District was formed on July 1, 1996, with the consolidation of Upper Eagle Valley Consolidated Sanitation District and Vail Valley Consolidated Water District.

Our mission is to provide efficient, effective, and reliable water & wastewater utility services for our community and responsive operations & management services for our clients.

The District operates three wastewater treatment plants located in Vail, Avon, and Edwards. The wastewater treatment plant in Avon was built in 1966 with the most recent expansion of the plant completed in 1997, bringing the capacity of this treatment plant to 4.3 million gallons per day (MGD). The wastewater treatment plant in Vail was constructed in 1969 with an expansion completed in 1982, bringing the capacity of this plant to 2.7 MGD. More recent modifications to the plant were completed in 2000. The wastewater treatment plant in Edwards was constructed in 1981 with an expansion completed in 1986 and another expansion completed in 2001, bringing the capacity of this treatment plant to 2.95 MGD. The average daily flow through the wastewater system is 5.5 MGD with the maximum peak week flow of 7.7 MGD and a minimum flow of 3.7 MGD.

The District provides water service from East Vail to Dowd Junction through ten wells, one surface treatment plant located in East Vail, and 57 miles of transmission lines. The District shares a water system interconnect in Dowd Junction with Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority as a backup source.

The District contracts with other governmental entities within its service area. We provide full contract operations and management services to Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority which provides water through 115 miles of transmission lines to its six members; Avon, Arrowhead, Beaver Creek, Berry Creek, Eagle-Vail, Edwards, as well as to Bachelor Gulch and Cordillera Metropolitan Districts. The Water Authority’s primary source of water is the ten (10) MGD surface water treatment plant located in Avon. The District also provides billing of water service charges for the Town of Minturn.

The District employs approximately 85 full-time employees. While our administrative offices are located in Vail, we have operations employees assigned to our Vail, Avon, and Edwards Wastewater Treatment Plants, Gore Valley Water Treatment Plant in Vail, and the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority plants (Avon Drinking Water Facility and Edwards Drinking Water Facility) as well.
